In the Corner of the Dark Fatherland

There is no such thing as the happiest country in the world.

In the Corner of the Dark Fatherland explores the current psychological landscape of postindustrial small-town Finland. Amongst dark woods and scattered towns, where memories of darker times, characterised by world leading national suicide and alcoholism rates linger. The title is a lyric, taken from an English translation of the regional anthem of Kainuu, Nälkämaan laulu, (meaning Song of the Hungerland).
